 “Bridging Speech-Language and Reading:

Practical Approaches for Supporting Dyslexia”

Time and Date: Thursday October 23, 2025 6:00-8:00 EST

Learning Objectives: This workshop is designed to provide SLPs with practical, evidence-based instructional strategies to support the dyslexic learner through multicomponent or multilinguistic training.

Learning outcomes as follows:

  • Examine the characteristics of dyslexia and the co-morbidities between, speech, language and reading.
  • Discuss traditional barriers experienced by SLPs in supporting students with dyslexia.
  • Outline the unique skill-set offered by speech-language pathologists to support overall outcomes for students with dyslexia.
  • Describe evidence-based, multi-component instructional practices which can both directly and indirectly benefit students with dyslexia.


Time-Ordered Agenda:

  1. Examine characteristics of dyslexia, comorbidities and traditional barriers (30 minutes)
  2. Outline the unique skill-set of SLPs and where we are best suited to contribute to outcomes (20 minutes)
  3. Describe evidence-based, multi-component instructional practices which can both directly and indirectly benefit students with dyslexia.  (60 minutes)
  4. Question/Answer period (10 minutes)

Speaker: Marianne Nice M.S. CCC-SLP/C-SLDS

Marianne Nice, MS, CCC-SLP, is a licensed speech-language pathologist, certified reading specialist and IDA certified dyslexia specialist with 27 years of experience in K-12 education. Marianne incorporates her experience and training as both an SLP and Reading Specialist to support, train and coach educators in all aspects of literacy development. She consults to numerous organizations and school districts on multi-tiered systems of support models, best practices in classroom literacy instruction and the use of effective school-wide literacy interventions. Marianne  has been a featured speaker at a number of national language and literacy conventions to include ASHA and IDA. Marianne lives in southern New Hampshire with her husband, also a reading specialist, and her two children ages 21 and 18.
